Bank Holidays February 2025: Detailed Calendar of Bank Closures Across Indian States

Bank Holidays February 2025

The second and fourth Saturdays of each month are bank holidays in India. Not only that, but banks also do not open on certain holidays, including federal holidays, state holidays, and regional holidays.

On Thursday, in observance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's birthday and Vir Surendra Sai Jayanti, all banks, whether public and private, will have a vacation. Having said that, the shutdown is not countrywide.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar states that only West Bengal, Odisha, and Tripura would have closed banks.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has its own set of rules for classifying bank holidays, such as those pertaining to the Negotiable Instruments Act, RTGS holidays, and the shutting of bank accounts. Notifications to banks and the RBI website formally announce these vacations.

Every year on January 23, Parakram Diwas is honored on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the renowned liberation warrior, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

It was not until 2021 that the Indian government formally proposed January 23 as Parakram Diwas. Veer Surendra Sai was a freedom warrior from Odisha.

He fought against the British administration in India when they dethroned the monarchs of the Sambalpur State since he was the lawful successor. He was born on 23 January 1809.

State-specific bank holidays

India's bank holidays generally rely on regional traditions and observances, resulting to variances among states.

However, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks universally observe holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. Notably, if a month contains a fifth Saturday, banks stay active on that day.

National holidays for banking

Apart from state-specific holidays, banks countrywide are closed on significant national holidays, including Republic Day (January 26), Independence Day (August 15), and Gandhi Jayanti (October 2).

Online banking services remain unchanged

While banks may be closed physically, digital banking alternatives including Net banking, mobile banking, and UPI services will continue to work uninterrupted.

However, lengthy vacations might lead to interruptions in ATM cash supply. Customers are encouraged to verify that their online banking services are functioning and connected to their registered mobile phones to enable transactions.
